A large (not giant) private company was totally focused on cash-based accounting rather than accrual. They converted to accrual accounting about six years ago, but still have a separate cash P&L generated (in addition to the cash flow statements). The company doing $200 million a year, writes off a substantial amount of receivables each year, running into the tens of millions. Why would that make cash accounting attractive?
