ACUTE GLOMERULONEPHRITIS
A 10-year-old boy presents himself, with his mother, to the doctor's office. His mother is concerned about his recent loss of appetite and complaints of fatigue. She explains that two days ago, after returning from school, he slept all evening long. He told his Mom this morning that his urine is dark brown in color so his mother decided to consult her health care provider.
A physical examination confirmed a low grade temperature and revealed a blood pressure of 144/ 96, a heart rate of 96 beats per minute and respirations of 26 breaths per minute. The remainder of the physical exam was unremarkable. While questioning the client, the health care provider learned that the boy had experienced a sore throat 2 weeks earlier but did not tell his mother for fear of missing baseball practice and games.
A urinalysis was obtained and results showed positive for red blood cells and protein. His urine specific gravity is elevated. The health care provider suspects acute glomerulonephritis, and prescribes bed rest, and daily weights. A throat culture is obtained.

Urine Analysis (UA): urine RBC = 3+; urine protein = 3+; specific gravity = 1.040
