A student diluted a sample of red blood cells but instead of using 1% NaCl the student used dH2O. When the student looked at the sample under the microscope, he was unable to see any red blood cells. Assuming that the correct volumes were used in the dilutions and that the microscope was focused correctly, why was the student unable to see any red blood cells?
