1. In the first interview's UCLA video, why was the doctor frustrated with the family relative's interpretation? What were some of the words that were not translated correctly? What would the proper interpretation look like?
2. What are some of the risks associated with medical interpreting? For example, what can happen if a family/friend provides the doctors with the wrong translation? What was the word in the Florida lawsuit that was translated wrong, and what were the consequences (the Doctor in the video referred to that lawsuit)? How much was paid for that lawsuit?
3. In the other example, what were some issues that were not translated correctly when the patient stated the treatment goes against her religious beliefs? Why do you think it is essential to understand colloquial medical terms when doing medical interpreting or translating?
4. Are you considering going into medical interpreting? If yes, why? If not, why? Elaborate on what you think are some of the challenges of medical interpreting and some opportunities based on your own experiences and examples mentioned in the UCLA video.
