Question: Based on your reading of the first three chapters of Immigration. An American History, and other research you made, why was immigration from Europe considered positively in British colonies in North America and, later, in the Early Republic? What made it useful if not even necessary? In other words, why were no major restrictions on immigration put in place in the United States until the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882? Please introduce and explain the major reasons for it, and discuss the shift in the policies that happened in the second half of the nineteenth century.
