Think about how oscillations relate to energy and forces. We know that when amass is hung vertically we can balance forces such that the spring force up is equal in magnitude to the force of gravity down and the mass is stationary. Yet when we release the mass from the position where the spring is unstretched, the mass oscillates. Explain why the mass oscillates around the equilibrium position and does not stop given that the net force at the equilibrium position is zero.
