Review the scenario below. Scenario: You are the director of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department at University Hospital (UH), the acute-care hospital associated with an academic medical center. Recently, UH and the academic medical center were the recipients of a multi-million dollar grant awarded by The Good Person Foundation.

As with most grants, there are stipulations and requirements to be met. One of the stipulations of this grant is that the hospital has a diversity program in place, or have one in place within six months of receiving the first round of grant monies. While UH is committed to being a diverse workplace, there is no formal diversity plan in place at the hospital. You have been placed on a hospital-wide committee charged with creating a diversity plan.

The committee feels that one of their first steps must be to communicate with all hospital employees why a diversity plan is being created now. Members of the committee are divided as to whether the stipulation of the grant should be mentioned as a reason.

a. Explain to all employees why the diversity plan is being created. You must at least cover why a diversity plan is a good idea for University Hospital, the benefits, and the components of a diversity plan. Make sure to consider your audience carefully when determining content.

b. Research the reasons for, benefits of, and components of a diversity program. Include measurable learning objectives Make sure to present your references.
