Choose one of the two individuals we have introduced as case studies (either Piper Kerman or Dzhokhar Tsarnaev) and choose one of the theoretical frameworks for understanding the criminal justice system we discussed in class (Classical School, Positivist School, Sociological Theories of Punishment, or one of Kraska and Brent's 8 Theories). Explain how this theory helps us to understand (1) why the defendant you chose might have committed their crimes and (2) how that defendant should be treated. Choose a theory you really think makes sense and convince the reader of why it makes sense as applied to understand what Piper or Dzhokhar did, and how they were treated in the criminal justice system.
