Instructions

For the formal analysis portion of the assignment, you will prepare a written report that answers questions regarded your selected decision topic.

Address all parts of every question in the assignment. Demonstrate that you have put effort into thinking about your responses.

Answers that only quote or repeat the readings or lectures are less valued than responses that also incorporate your thoughtful contributions. Your answers should include at least one thoughtful and specific paragraph per question.

Background

1. Introduce and summarize the decision topic.

2. Summarize important background information and explain why the decision is important on a national or global level. Make sure the reader has the necessary knowledge and information to understand the topic, the decision, the choices, and the relevance of the issue.

3. Carefully describe the major alternatives or options to be considered in making the decision. The topic should have at least two major alternatives being considered.

4. Use examples and citations from academic journals and news sources to support your ideas. In-text and reference list citations should follow APA format.

Analysis

5. For all of the major alternatives described above, list and define the essential features and attributes by which the alternatives can be evaluated and compared.

1. Features are the general traits that could describe the alternatives (e.g., "color," "cost," "duration," and "safety"). Consider the features that could be compared across the alternatives to evaluate them (e.g., car choices can be compared by evaluating the "color" or "safety rating" of each option).

2. Clearly explain how the features describe each alternative. For example, if "color" is the feature and there are three car alternatives, explain the color of each choice (e.g., car #1 is red, car #2 is blue, etc.).

3. Create a table that summarizes the features across the alternatives.

6. Explain how specific heuristics and biases might affect reasoning about each of the features attributes you described above.

1. Explain how "System 1" might perceive, evaluate, or compare each feature. Be specific about potential biases.

2. Explain how "System 2" might perceive, evaluate, or compare each feature. Be specific about potential reasoning processes.

3. Create a table that summarizes potential biases, System 1 reasoning, and System 2 reasoning related to each feature.

7. Based on your analysis above, explain how biased or heuristic reasoning may affect the overall decision or decision making process.

8. Use examples and citations from academic journals and news sources to support your ideas. In-text and reference list citations should follow APA format.

Decision

9. Explain which decision alternative is the most intelligent choice or solution. In your explanation, provide examples and evidence that align with the major principles of "intelligence."

a. As necessary, define these principles for the reader.

10. Explain which decision alternative is the most creative choice or solution. In your explanation, provide examples and evidence that align with the major principles of "creativity."

a. As necessary, define these principles for the reader.

11. State which decision you would recommend, overall. Explain how your decision (and your decision making process) avoids or minimizes common biases.

12. Use examples and citations from academic journals and news sources to support your
ideas. In-text and reference list citations should follow APA format.  References

13. Include an APA-formatted Reference List that includes the journal articles, news articles, or sources consulted for this project. Do not cite the instructor's lectures.

Formatting

Your report must be a typed Word document (Times or Times New Roman, 12 point font).

You will upload your report via Blackboard.
