Why some comparisons are effective, and others are easily dismayed? Let's look at the example of "X politician is like Hitler!" why isn't this a good comparison? This example is not a good comparison because, realistically, Hitler in history is a mass murderer, and she murdered thousands of people who were Jewish. To say someone is like that is an outlandish comparison because currently, we do not and have not had any recent politicians that had mass executed with the amount of zero remorse that Hitler had. This comparison does not work because it is not a very similar comparison, and it is not backed up by anything. In this week's reading, we had an example that compared football to war, which at first glance sounds outlandish, like the Hitler comparison. But this comparison was backed up by more examples, such as the technology "Field General, Long Bomb, and the draft" being used as examples to back up the comparison. If a comparison is going to compare two very different topics, you need to add more information to it than just the first sentence.
