Do you agree with the following discussion postPositivist and construct theories help us understand why an individual is considered to be deviant and the reason that causes one to commit a deviant act. However, the theories have fundamental differences that differentiate them. Positivism theories seek to explain the reasons why people engage in deviant acts using empirical methods. They are often associated with natural science and focus on quantitative research methods.

In contrast, Constructionist theories explain the cause of deviant behaviors or actions among people based on social construct (Church et al., 2009). The theories state that deviant and criminal behaviors are constructed through interpretations and social interactions. Based on the explanation of the two perspectives, I would agree with Positivism theories because they are more focused on deviance and provide reasons why people commit deviant acts; whereas constructionist theory focuses on defining or labeling deviant behavior and how community members respond to deviant behavior?
