Assignment:

As a AMP phosphodiesterase enzyme inhibitor, drinking/eating caffeine will increase the intracellular concentrations of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). Increasing cAMP in muscle cells cause the protein kinase A enhancing muscle strength for a short time. (IM, 2002). And off course, as a stimulant caffeine can increase epinephrine which raises blood pressure and contractility of the heart, delaying fatigue. In a study by Kevin Acheson et al. (2002) it is recorded that after ingestion of caffeine lipid turnover increased two-fold, oxidative free fatty acids disposal increased by 44% and increase energy expenditure of 13%, when compared to placebo group. So increases of cAMP from caffeine stimulate stored triglycerides increasing free fatty acid to be used as an energy source. (IM, 2002). This is why many "pre-work" drinks are full of caffeine, to give the person a boost of energy both by adrenaline and FFA as well as a brief enhancement of muscle strength.
