"Why is transparency in government so difficult to obtain?"

In reading up on the topic of government transparency, I learned that there are many different factors that influence the level of transparency the government displays. I enjoyed the first article on Accountability and Transparency because it helped me see the bigger picture of the issue. Then, when I read the second article, I saw the issue from a totally different perspective.

In my opinion, not all aspects of government are capable of showing transparency, for various reasons. For example, classified or sensitive information, data that can be compromised, or personnel related documents. However, I am in agreement with the point of view in the article about the lack of openness and transparency- that there isn't a lack if you are willing to do your research. As a City of Riverside employee, I am responsible for a few aspects of updates to the City website. I can attest to the fact that there are probably hundreds of resources there within one website. Whether you need to apply for a Business Tax license, get a hold of your local Councilmember, or see when your street is scheduled to be repaved, you can find it all on the City's website.
