U.S. Constitution requires the President to periodically "give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." The State of the Union Address is an annual message delivered by the President to a joint session of the United States Congress at the beginning of each calendar year in office.
In this address, the President outlines her/his vision for the country, the goals s/he hopes to achieve during her/his first term of office, the major programs and initiatives s/he intends to enact, and any significant changes s/he plans to make in the administration of the federal government.
