Skyler" is a 4-year-old 100 lb. FS Great Dane presented today for extreme lethargy, anorexia, and vomiting of two days' duration. She has had occasional episodes of vomiting and diarrhea in the past, but nothing like this. Skyler appeared normal earlier today, though she did not eat breakfast this morning. She only vomited once yesterday. There has been no change in her diet, dietary indiscretion or known toxin exposure. On physical examination she is obtunded, her temperature is 98 F. Her heart sounds are difficult to hear on auscultation. The HR is 54 bpm. Peripheral pulses are thready. Her mucous membranes are dry and pale. CRT is approximately three seconds. On palpation, her abdomen is relaxed, non-painful, and no masses are palpable. A large soft urinary bladder is palpable. Lymph nodes palpate normally. The owner is very concerned because she became so depressed so quickly.
