Why is knowledge of competitors important? How does one determine who their competitors are? You might equate it to knowing who is competing for a job so you are better prepared for an interview or presentation etc.

In many instances competitors are seen as being detrimental, that is, having fewer competitors is healthier than having many.

Can you consider situations in which having competitors can work to your benefit?
