Problem

You are a professional and have been tasked with the opportunity to effect change in the community around you. Three models of community change exist and are discussed in Chapter 5 of our reading; these include the locality development model, the social planning model, and the social action model (Hessenauer, et al., 2019).

A. Think about the community you are in. What is an issue that you could generate a change in?

I. For example, a current issue in the community I am from is the growing issue of inappropriate books being easily accessible and available to young children in the community at the public library without the need of parental supervision.

B. Select one of the community change models discussed on pages 256-261 in our textbook and use it to help you address the issue you are trying to affect change in.

C. Address the following next:

I. An introduction about you and your community

II. A description of the issue identified in the community

1. Who does it affect? Why is it important to you and your community?

III. A description of the community change model chosen for use

1. Why is this model most effective in this situation?

IV. A description of what you would like to design or put into practice for the change to occur in your community

1. Who is required for this to be completed? What other resources will you need? Is the change achievable? How long may it take?
