The purpose of this plan is to give you the opportunity to analyze your professional career and define goals and objectives that will contribute to the development of your training. The following is a guide to develop this work. Personal Career Development Write your own personal career and development plan. Use the following questions as a guide.
1. Explain your career goals and objectives. Remember that the goal is where you want to get to and the objectives are the steps you will take to get there.
2. Assess yourself: What are your strongest professional qualities? What do you feel you need to improve? What skills do you need to achieve your goals? Compare your capabilities with those of your colleagues where you work and other organizations: Why do you think you are more productive or efficient than your colleagues? Are you knowledgeable in information technology, or do you always need support from someone else to accomplish technology-related tasks?
3. Read the career competency inventory on page 213, which of these skills do you possess? Make a table, and rank them in order of importance to you.
4. Why did you decide to pursue a career at Keiser? What is your concentration/specialty? How do you think this degree will help you with your future career plans?
5. Do you have a mentor? If you were to find a mentor, who would it be and why? How would you approach them? Why do you think a mentor would make a difference in your professional development?
6. Do you participate in social networks, professional groups or associations? If yes, explain which ones and how you think they can enhance your professional reputation. If no, tell us which ones you think you can participate in.
7. Do you participate in community leadership programs? Explain which ones. If none, explain which ones you would like to participate in and why.
8. Conclusions: Why is it important to do a professional development plan? How did it help you to do this work?
