In regards to Herodotus:

  • Why is he important in Western Civilization?
  • In this passage, from what point of view does he tell the story?
  • What seems to be the status of women in this society (there is a specific quote about women's abductions)

In regards to Thucydides:

  • How is he different from Herodotus?
  • What does he bring that is new to historical thought?
  • Why does he feel that "Ancient times" were a time of weakness for the Greeks?
  • How does he describe the Greeks and their region in the past (in other words what is the history of them that he puts forth).

As to both:
