Since the company entered the Indian market in the 1970s, it has met with market rejection, to the point that it has been accused of polluting the waters of the towns where the bottling plants were located. Coca-Cola left the market in 1977 and returned in 1993, where it found a much more competitive market than in previous years. Despite the continuous complaints that Coca-Cola faces in the Indian market, the company is not giving up on its goal of penetrating the second most populous country in the world.
