Question: Food has been a source of nourishment, a means of expressing cultural identity, facilitating religious celebrations, establishing social networks, and symbolizing power and status. Since the beginning of human history, grain has been an important food source and an essential component of our diet. Grains were a staple food item in the ancient world, and it is still a major part of our diets today, providing us with nutrition, energy, and other benefits. By examining how food was used in the ancient world, we can gain insight into the complexities of food production, consumption, symbolism, and other issues that are relevant to modern society. What can we learn from this? By studying the methods used by ancient civilizations, we can learn efficient and sustainable ways to produce food on a large scale and thus help to ensure that everyone have access to the resources they need to survive. How? Ancient people relied heavily on grain for nutrition because it could be stored for a long time without losing its nutritional value. Ancient civilizations such as the Romans and the Greeks relied heavily on grain as a primary source of nutrition for their populations. Grain was an important part of trade for a number of reasons. Why?
