Find an advertisement of your choice (print-based ad) and answer the following questions:

1. Who is the ad is aimed at?

  • describe them demographically and psychographically. Use the demographic words from earlier in the course and the psychographics from earlier in this lesson.

2. What is being advertised, and what is specifically highlighted about the product (the benefits) in this ad?

3. Why does this ad help sell a product?

  • In this question, look at the combination of the logo, slogan, words, emotional appeals, claims and other techniques. Which are used? How are they used?

4. Where/When should this ad appear in order to reach its target audience?

  • The location of the ad will change how effective it is. For example, you would not advertise a product for teens on television during a weekday. Why? Most teens are in school and would not see the ad!
