Reflect on the covenants that you've seen in the Pentateuch through this week's content. God makes covenants with Noah (Gen 9), Abraham (Gen 12-17) and Moses (Ex 19-24). Covenants are relational commitments, the stipulations of which reveal something about the parties involved. In this post, answer the following questions:

  1. Covenants are the most serious of relationships - marriage itself is a covenant. Why do you think God is so serious about His relationship with His people?
  2. Read the 10 Commandments (Ex 20:1-17) which are part of the Covenant of Moses which extends to the people of Israel. Hone in on verse 2-6. Why are the first two commands so focused on exclusivity? Why does God care so much about exclusive relationship?
  3. God chooses unlikely people to make covenants with. Abraham and Moses weren't stellar people in their own right. What is your reaction to the OT reality that God choses broken people, often those who have been rejected by the world, to do great things?
