Assignment:

Jake (he/him/his) is working on a sensitive, confidential project during his co-op, which is hybrid (2 days in the office, 3 days at home). He has a company laptop he uses for the project -- with the appropriate software and data used by the company downloaded onto this laptop. He was working with one other team-mate to complete the project. They agreed to complete different parts of the project to get it done on time. Over the weekend - Jake went over to his mom's house and forgot to bring his company laptop with him. He asked his colleague from work -- who was not completely familiar with his part of the project -- to finish his part for him.

The colleague agreed since the deadline was hours away and once the colleague finished it, Jake sent the completed product to his boss. When the boss reviewed the report, she inquired whether he had written the work himself since his part of the report sounded just like a paper she published five years ago on the same topic. Jake panicked and responded that yes, it was completely his own words. When he logged in to work the next Monday morning, he was informed that he was to speak to HR immediately and was terminated.
