Question: phenylketonuria(PKU) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder in which an individual has a defect in the gene that is needed to break down phenylalanine. what is the likelihood that two individuals that are carriers will pass on the condition to their offspring? also , what is the likelihood that the parents will pass on the gene to their offspring but not the condition? since this is so rare, why do we test every newborn? if there is a buildup of phenylalanine in the body, what does it cause?
