Why do some firms consistently outperform others?

This question gets at the source of sustained competitive advantage so I would like you to answer it from the perspective of each of the following two theories:

Structure-Conduct-Performance - (based on I/O Economics) - Porter (1980)

Resource-Based View of the Firm - Barney (1986)

In answering this question, I would also like for you to consider how these two theories relate to each other and provide a more complete set of insights for managers who want their organization to not just survive in the long run, but to flourish!
