However, the recent resurgence of overtly white supremacist groups and politicians' not-too-veiled comments suggesting white supremacist leanings-for example, Iowa Representative Steve King's statement that "we can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies"-make it clear that race and ethnicity remain important issues in the United States.
