Liquid Crystals, discovered in 1888 by an Austrian botanist named Friedrich Reinitzer, possess some characteristics of solids and some of liquids, but do not fall into either category. They are found in nature in cell membrane structure, in soaps and detergents, and are behind the screen of our phones and computers (LCD stands for liquid crystal display).
Activity
Do some research on properties and applications of liquid crystals. Present a 250 word summary of your findings to the class,
making sure your posting contains the following:
1. Why did you choose this particular compound?
2. What did you learn from your research?
3. Sources (books, articles, websites) you collected information from.
