Why did the terror attacks of 9/11 happen? What were the motivations of the attackers? These were the questions on the minds of every American and it was a fundamental debate among the American public in the days following the attack. After reading the assigned textbook chapters, read Osama bin Laden's 1998 Fatwa in which he lists his reasons for declaring war on the United States. Then read President George W. Bush's speech responding to the 9/11 terror attacks. How does Bin Laden justify his declaration of war against the United States? Why does President Bush believe the attacks were carried out? How can you explain the differences between their two perspectives?
