The purpose of the assignment is to report on the student's first-hand experience with community engagement and service.

Students are to participate in a volunteer-based activity conducted by a local nonprofit organization and prepare a report,

*3-4 pages in length that addresses the following questions (do not include the questions in the report - only provide the answers).

*Service Verification Form must be submitted as well in order to receive credit for this assignment.

1. What is the organization's name? What is its official mission statement? What are the programs and/or services it provides to the community? (length: approximately 1/2 -1 page)

2. Why did the student select the organization? What were the personal connections and interests in the organization's work? (length: approximately 1/2 page)

3. What were the purposes of the volunteer activity in which the student participated? Provide a detailed description of the activity, the number of volunteers involved, the roles they served, the population served, etc. (length: approximately 1 page) 4. What trend or issue in the community was being addressed by the activity?

(If the service provided by the student was only of direct benefit to the organization itself, then report about a program or event the organization provides that addresses a trend or issue in the community). Provide a detailed description of the trend or issue, its importance to the community, and the role of the organization in addressing it. (approximately 1 page)

*Paper format: Times New Roman, 12 pt font, double spaced, 1 inch margins. Points will be reduced for irregular formatting, excessive spacing, etc. Papers should be written at college level and be free of grammatical and spelling errors.
