Question: Buddhism was the first foreign system to take root in China. The culture into which foreign systems are transplanted seems to have a significant influence on which foreign ideas take root. Why did Buddhism play such an important role there? Why not Hinduism? Think about what role Daoist beliefs might have played in seeding fertile ground in China for Buddhism to take root. Think also about how Confucianism and Chinese societal norms might have played a role in preventing Hinduism from arriving there.
