Question: The Articles of Confederation was America's first constitution but it proved to have too many flaws, after the new country won independence.

The document was good enough to hold the colonies together during the Revolutionary War but with peace in the land, problems came out.

Many of you will note those problems.

One I would like to focus on for this discussion. The dependency on the states to support the central government.

States held more power than the federal government. Washington had no way of paying the national debt owed to France. Nor did the document call for a standing Army or Navy.

Money was root of the problem as revealed by Shays Rebellion.

What if any thing is different today? Do we depend too much on states to help support the federal government? Why could the president mandate everyone wear a mask? Why can't the federal government mandate a national minimum wage?
