Question 1: Considering the natural environment of a Hydra, would that environment typically be susceptible to bacterial infection? If so, then we can assume that the Hydra must have a specific defense against those bacteria. Can you think of other organisms that may live in similar habitats that could be possible sources?

Question 2: Consider that bacteria are protein synthesizing factories. And, many of these proteins are enzymes. These enzymes, many times, are active against structures of a neighboring cell. Do you think these substances are purposely being produced?

Question 3: Consider for a moment why bacteria produce antibacterial proteins/enzymes. Is it possible that other life forms do the same? If so, how do we identify them?
