A patient is admitted to the Emergency Dept.. The information indicates the patient suffered significant blood loss in an accident in front of the hospital 30 minutes ago. An IV line was started and an EDTA tube was drawn from the other arm and sent immediately to the lab. The Hgb is 14 g/dL and the Hct 42%. The ED staff is perplexed that the H&H are so high.

1. Why are the values normal?
