CHOOSE ONE TOPIC: Do not write (or repeat) the actual question as the title or part of the essay heading; be creative with the title (do NOT use the title Fahrenheit 451 as the title. Place the selected option letter in the heading. (i.e. Essay #2 - Option A)

Option A: Why are books considered evil in Fahrenheit 451? What dangers do they represent? Research other periods in history in which books were viewed as a danger to the populace. What are some circumstances that allow these feelings to rise within a society? Are similar circumstances apparent in Montag's society that led to the burning of books?

Option B: Identify and describe the three women in Montag's life that have the most impact on his actions and his life. Montag's meeting with each of these women signifies major turning points in his life and his strides toward breaking free of societal restraints. Describe these turning points and explain how each of these women are catalysts for his growth.

Option C: Beatty (Montag's boss) is a complicated character. He is knowledgeable about books (how?) and yet he burns them (why?). He seems to taunt Montag after he forces Montag to burn down his house. Montag turns the flamethrower on Beatty and kills him. Was that Beatty's purpose all along? Did he want to die or was he surprised to be on the receiving end of such violence? Take a stand and give reasons to support your claim.
