Watch one of the movies listed in the Movie List and provide a critique of the movie using concepts we have been learning in class, using the following questions and the rubric as a guide:
- Please speak to at least 4 concepts learned in class
- How does the film deal with each concept, provide at least one example from the movie for each concept to illustrate your points.
- In what ways does the film do a good job of dealing with these concepts?
- In what ways does the film fail to develop or do justice to these concepts?
- Is the movie worthwhile? Would you recommend it for its educational merit? Why or why not?
The movie review is to be at least 500 words and no more than 750 words (double-spaced). Do not give a scene-by-scene account of the whole movie, however you should write two or three sentences summarizing the plot. Then, you can focus on scenes in the movie that clarify certain concepts (racism, power-distance, values, beliefs, non-verbal behaviours, individualism vs. collectivism, identity, class, stereotyping or prejudice, etc.)
Movie Name: The Good Lie
A 2014 drama directed by French-Canadian filmmaker Philippe Falardeau about a group of Sudanese refugees who struggle to build new lives in America. Their encounter with an employment counsellor forever changes all of their lives.
