Caes: You are applying to the "PSB Leadership Bursary" at Sheridan College1. This bursary is awarded to students in the Pilon School of Business (PSB) who show exceptional promise in one or more of the following areas: academic achievement; leadership within the PSB community; and/or leadership in the community outside of Sheridan. To apply for the bursary, you need a letter of reference from an instructor whose course you took in a previous semester. (If you are in your first semester at Sheridan, you may address the email to an instructor from your secondary school.)

Write an email to one of your former instructors in which you request a letter of reference. In your email, ensure that you introduce yourself (i.e., remind your instructor which course / section you took with them, and which semester). Explain to them the selection criteria for the bursary, and how your skills and experience match those criteria. Remind them what you achieved in their course (e.g., your final grade, along with some excellent work you submitted). Make sure that you show lots of goodwill. Thank them for considering this request and be mindful of your tone. Let them know when the letter needs to be submitted, and to whom (i.e., next steps). Ensure that you have provided ALL the information they need in order to a) accept your request for a letter; and b) write you a strong letter that will improve your chances of winning the bursary. DO NOT direct your reader to an email attachment (such as a resume); your email must include all the
information you wish to convey to your reader.

Use a formal greeting and formal sign-off.

Instructions:
A. Open a new MS Word document. On the first page of your Word document, create an outline for your email. In this outline, please include the following elements in point form:

1. The name of the instructor (real or fictional) to whom you are writing, the name of the course you took with them, and the year/semester when you took their course.

2. The grade you achieved in their course.

3. A brief description of an assignment from their course on which you did particularly well, including any instructor comments (if applicable).

4. Your final grade in their course.

5. One or two examples of your experience and/or achievements outside of the course that support your candidacy for this bursary.

6. Details on where their letter should be sent, and by when.

7. The next steps for your audience, including necessary contact information
