Mala is a 29-year-old female who presents with intense feelings of sadness. She stated that she has daily crying spells, feels sad "all the time," has trouble sleeping at night, and is overeating. She stated that she spent the time awake "thinking" and "questioning the state of her life." She acknowledged that some of her thoughts were that she was not a good mom and that she felt she was a problem for her husband. Her husband is always quick to reassure her. She stated that she used to have a big group of friends but has not kept in touch with them. She would like more time to enjoy leisure activities but is unsure what her interests are. She reports due to her feelings and lack of energy, that she has reduced her work hours, and it is having a financial impact. She expressed unhappiness that she was not the person she wanted to be, and she stated that she does not see life improving as she has been feeling this way for many years.
