Question: Reflecting on concepts from chapter 8 (gender/family roles) and moving forward with content from chapter 11 (applied issues), the following two videos address roles and worldviews in an Indian culture and in an aspect of American culture. Be sure that you view both videos that are posted below, and then consider the following topics of contrast:
Topic 1. Roles of husbands and wives: Who is expected to do what between the spouses? Do family origin lines make a difference, and how?
Topic 2. Dominant breadwinners: Who is depended upon to make a living for the family? Does the setting (rural vs. urban) make a difference, and how?
Topic 3. Duties/roles of children: What kind of behavior is expected from the children according to their gender or setting?
Directions: Choose ONE (1) of the above topics, and then use your chosen topic to respond to all three (3) items below.
Answer the questions that are found with the above topic of your choice. Your response should help you to identify the differences between the two cultures addressed in the two videos Support your response with one example from each video, and state whether or not you would agree with and be able to live in that cultural setting. (up to 35 points)
Among the possibilities that are discussed in chapter 11, what type of anthropologist(s) would you expect to conduct the studies or the coverage of the content from these two videos, and why that choice? If you state more than one kind of anthropologist, be sure to connect that type to the specific video that you viewed. (up to 35 points) Remember that chapter 11 along with the other essential reading chapters can be found on the Class Resources: All Units page.
Finally, respond to one of your classmate's posts by presenting a different viewpoint or by asking a question about clarifying a point made in that classmate's post.
