Case: Even if the situation leading to the Bhopal plant accident in 1984 can be seen quite differently from different points of view, I think that Union Carbide Corporation can be considered as the main responsible agent for what happened. Why? And how could we generalize our conclusions? we are not talking here about the legal responsibility, but about the impression of responsibility that shapes the minds and hearts. Legal responsibility can be bounded by the terms of the commercial or criminal codes, laws of incorporation, etc; moral responsibility is something else, something more connected to intentions, motives, values and character.

When stakeholders see a company as responsible for a situation, what are the drivers that help to create that impression? simple model in the attachment

Question 1: Can companies, as such, be held morally accountable, morally responsible? Does it make sense to think of a company or corporation as a moral agent in itself?

Question 2) Or should our anger be direct to the top management at Union Carbide Corporation, as they were the agents who decided how to run the company?
