You are working with 2 different endangered bird species in the United States. Bob and Ann are two individuals from one species which produce precocious offspring. A monogamous pair of another species of birds named Jack and Sue, produce altricial offspring and the males and females of this species of songbirds equally share incubation and parental duties. Ann only interacted with Bob one time for copulation. After copulation, Ann started to lay her 12 egg clutch and she just laid her 7th egg today and will start incubation with her 8th egg tomorrow. Once incubation commences she will not leave her nest again until her chicks have hatched. Bob continues to attract other females of this species for copulation. Sue produced a 7 egg clutch, and incubation commenced 8 days ago when egg number 4 was produced.
1. Compare and contrast the composition of one of Sue's eggs versus one of Ann's eggs and indicate which egg will have a longer incubation period (explain your answers).
2. Which clutch of eggs is the most likely to have a synchronous hatch and what are the mechanisms by which this synchronous hatch occurred even though incubation commenced before all the eggs were laid (explain your answers).
