Question: Adler believed that career choices mirror the personality and that an individual's memories indicate what the individual would mostly focus on when choosing a career. Those researchers motivated by Adler's theory prognosticated that the type of career an individual chooses as an adult is often mirrored in his/her early memories. To test this hypothesis, Jon Kasler and Ofra Nevo (2005) decided to collect early memoirs of 130 participants, which were cyphered according to the type of career they reflected. The recollections were categorized applying Holland's (1973) vocational interest values: realistic, research, artistic, social, entrepreneurial, and conventional. In order to support his theory, Holland, (1973), the participants were assessed through a Self-Directed Search (SDS). Kasler and Nevo (2005) found that early childhood memories matched the type of career chosen as an adult, for at least three of the career types that were well-denoted (realistic, artistic, and social). These pieces are consistent with Adler's viewpoint of early memories and reveal how lifestyle can relate to occupational choice.
