Assignment:
Ingrid has managed to get the business off the ground and now has an engaged audience that follows the brand on numerous online platforms.
A tourist from America stumbled across images of the beautiful wine farms that supply Southern Suburbs Wine and decided to go for a wine tasting while on holiday in Cape Town. The tourist had a wonderful time, but during the drive out of the farm, saw a young person working in the vineyards. Their clothes were tatty and they looked no older than seventeen. This sighting troubled the American, who immediately took to social media and said that this particular wine farm made use of child labour. The post tagged Southern Suburbs Wine, which implicated the brand.
Ingrid dismissed the negative comments as nothing more than the ranting of an "ignorant foreigner".
It wasn't long before chaos broke out on Southern Suburbs Wine's social media channels, and Ingrid found her brand in the middle of a web PR crisis.
In light of the case study you discussed with your small group, what could Ingrid have done differently? Your answer should include:
• Which web PR tools Ingrid could have utilised; and
• How she could have prevented a web PR crisis from occurring.
