Often, we find that executives make decisions based upon conflicting strategic, financial, and environmental goals in their supply chain organizations. Sources of the conflict include policy, legal issues, ethical issues, and competition. It can be a very difficult situation to try and balance the organizational needs against the needs of the public and the consumer.

Case analysis questions to discuss:
1) Of all of the design factors taken into consideration, which was the most significant from a business perspective?
2) It would seem that there were multiples of databases/sets included in the exercise, rather than, say, the inventory systems. In your opinion, why was that?
