Question: I decided to talk about the third prompt which was Hedda's cruel behaviors. Of many, the biggest one or at least the attribute that stands out the most to me was her rude attitude towards the characters in the story. She has a very manipulative behavior and acts with sociopathic tendencies (the psychology major in me) towards those around her. The biggest of which or most prevalent was convincing Mrs. Elvsted to confide in her regarding her situation. As we progress, manipulation is another malevolent characteric of hers when she pits Mrs. Elvsted and Eljert against each other especially since she had persuaded Elvsted to trust her earlier. That is an extreme form of toxicity that Hedda embodies which is just one of many. Her entire character in my opinion is one of obsessively striving to control or over control others and create her own narrative. The story is hers and in her mind it is in no better hands than when it is with her and being controlled by her. I think the overlying theme of the story is how marriage and pregnancy and the different relationships formed and obstacles in front of them with and amongst family, friends and other societal members either overcome or fail the test of time. In this case, Hedda plays the catalyst here. Not only does she affect bonds amongst people but also the battles in oneself because suicide is also a sensitive topic presented to the reader and is also carried out amongst a character in the story. I could be looking into it a little too deep but that's what I got from it. What do y'all think of my opinions on the reading and do y'all have anything to add?
