Assessment - Data Management, Analysis and Visualisation Project

Assessment Description
In groups of 4 to 5 class members (no more than 5 members) you are to perform a number of data management, analysis and visualisation tasks using your BI (Business Intelligence) tool of choice.

Consider the business question and data set below and complete Parts A and B below in a group in Week 12 class time.

All students will need to have access to a laptop or a desktop computer in order to contribute to this task. Student will need to have downloaded and installed a BI tool of their choice.

Business Question: You are a Senior Analytics professional working for the Nurses' Professional Association of Australia (NPAA), an Australian industry group, tasked with improving the well-being of nurses, especially older nurses that are stressed, overweight and suffer from sleep apnea. As an initial step, you are asked to benchmark the well-being of your cohort against other professional occupations, to assess the extent of the problem. Following the delivery of your analytics report, you are to suggest an experiment to generate data to assist with prescriptive analytics for improving the well-being of nurses, particularly older nurses. Data: The data files (data and fields) will be provided by your lecturer at the commencement of the class.
Software: Your team's choice of Power BI or Tableau

Each group needs to ensure they bring at least one laptop to the class in Week 12 and have access to a data visualisation software (free student license)

Assessment Overview

Part A: Data Management (200 words)

Instructions:

The data file will be provided by your facilitioator at the commencement of the class. The data relates to the well-being of a number of professions. Suppose that you are a Senior Analytics professional for the Nurses Professional Association of Australia. You wish to determine how to best improve the well-being of nurses, especially older nurses. This insight is to be initially gained from benchmarking against other professions. Complete your assignment now!

Data Dictionary: Review the data file that you have been provided. Create a data dictionary

Data Security: Explain how you will back up the data and keep it secure throughout the data management process. What challenges are associated with this?

*Part B: Data Analysis and Recommendations (800 words)

1. Discover the lifestyle issues that are facing nurses.

As part of this discovery exercise, create four sub-questions and visualisations to gain insight into the health and well-being of nurses.
For example, which behaviour patterns do you consider are likely to be associated with the level of stress experienced by nurses?
Explain which visualization you think is the most effective for shining light on the business question above? Why?

2. Data Preparation

With reference to two visuals produced in Part 1, filter and sort some variables to gain greater depth of insight for the business problem. For example, comparing normal weight versus overweight nurses for each of the variables provided.

3. Model building
Provide summary statistics for 3 variables in the data set to assist with building a model to improve the health and well-being of nurses.
Design an experiment to generate data to assist with prescriptive analytics for improving the well-being of nurses, particularly older nurses. For example, studying the effect the number of daily steps could have on stress levels. Feel free to consider variables in addition to those provided in your data set.

4. Communication

Develop 4 to 5 slides that tell a story about the insights you have gained/ expect to gain from your analytics exercise. These slides should include both visualisations and commentary on key insights.

5. Summary and Recommendation, as part of operationalising your findings
To improve the health and well-being of nurses, especially older nurses, suggest an app that will allow them to monitor their key variables to make adjustments in real time, when needed. Provide an example of how such an app would work based on data being generated and summarised descriptively. For example, suggest how the app would display key data points to assist nurses with real-time choices relating to their healthy living options.
