Question

Upon release 1999 film call The Matrix Director Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski, was considered a pivotal film in late 20th Century filmmaking - and not just in science fiction. It's influence is still seen everywhere today, and not just in the recent reboot Matrix Resurrections. The film was written and directed by the Wachowskis and has been interpreted in recent years as being a very personal film about transgender identity. In retrospect, that does seem to be the case and the Wachowskis have said as much in interviews in recent years (both siblings are famously shy and try to stay out of the media spotlight). However, when it came out it was seen as a definitive statement about the Internet and how it had forever changed humanity. So what's your take on it? How might we see it as a film about the influence of technologies, particularly digital ones, on America? What does it have to say about technology and about the way in which the idea of cyberspace had altered the world? I mentioned that it is also a deeply philosophical film (despite all the action sequences). So if you are inclined, examine the philosophical dimensions of the movie.
