We have to choose a significance level for a hypothesis test of the effectiveness of a certain medication in preventing a serious life-threatening disease. Research Group A feels that a significance level of alpha = 0.01 should be used while Research Group B feels that alpha = 0.05 would be better. Write two paragraphs detailing the arguments might each group make to support their position. Your paragraphs should include the terms alternative hypothesis, Type I error, Type II error, sample size and power. Keeping in mind that this is a serious life threatening disease which significance level would you choose? In a sample of 57 patients treated with the medication in 29 were in remission 6 months after taking the medication as prescribed. Test the claim that after 6 months of taking the medication, the majority of patients were in remission. Use the significance level you think is appropriate.
