Analyze the control systems used by a real organization such as a department store, restaurant, hospital, police department, or small business. Your objective is to uncover all the different ways in which managers monitor and evaluate the performance of the organization and employees.
After selecting and researching your organization, answer the following questions:
1. At what levels does control take place in this organization.
2. Which output performance standards (e.g.: financial measures, organizational goals) do managers use the most often to evaluate performance at each level?
3. How important is behavior control in this organization? For example, how much of managers' time is spend directly supervising employees? How formalized in the organization? Do employees receive a book of rules to instruct them on how to perform their jobs? Journals should be between 400 and 500 words (or more if needed).
Write your answers in paragraph form. In other words, include an introduction (e.g.: describe the organization), three (3) supporting paragraphs (one paragraph for each question), and a conclusion. In your conclusion, reflect upon whether you think there is a fit between the organization's control systems and its culture. Also include whether or not it could be improved.
