Here is what I have so far.... I am supposed to answer the questions above but I am unsure about what they mean by social group memberships. This is supposed to be for an Intercultural communication class.
"Social group memberships often help with defining the individual and collective identities of most individuals in society. Most of the time, people group themselves into a certain social group based on factors like ethnicity, nationality, religion, age, gender, etc. and then try to conform to fit the certain standard. The more people tie themselves to a certain group membership, the less likely they are to leave those groups thereby bending themselves to adhere to the standards of the group. Social group membership is tied to cultural norms and values with shared beliefs and expectations about behavior/ communication styles. Different social groups also have their languages and different communication patterns. "
